This debate was by far political theater rather than a debate of substance. The politicians danced around crucial questions with rhetoric infused with their stubborn biases. The questions avoided by the candidates were all crucial for the public to properly and critically decide which candidate offers our best hope for the next presidency. The candidates all spewed rhetoric that supported their ideology and biases either misstating or glossing over facts or failing to offer concrete policies. For example Trump stated, "and by the way, Mexico and almost every other country anywhere in the world doesn’t have that [birthright citizenship]. We’re the only ones dumb enough, stupid enough to have it." This is not even a true fact, and many other candidates also mislead the American populous preying on the fact that most American voters are less informed and not critical thinkers. Each politician involved seemed to be putting on a smile and acted as if they had a solid plan for each relevant issue brought up even if they didn’t offer up a plan. Instead they tiptoed around the issues and confidently used rhetoric to support their biases to convince the American population of misleading or twisted facts. Fiorina showed her extreme bias and willingness to twist the facts when she made a claim about a supposed Planned Parenthood video released by anti-abortion activist. She claimed that the film showed "a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain". This scene that she described is not surprisingly in none of the videos released. The candidates also were charismatically being blatantly rude to each other in a dramatic and immature manner. The consummate show persons, they were trying to upstage each other and steal the limelight. Like actors on a stage the politicians last night confidently and convincingly told fables as if they were true and spewed ideology as if it was the only correct way to be. This debate was 100% political theater and very few intelligent solid answers were given.
