Travel Skit: Honduras
For this project we were required to create a skit based on the Spanish speaking country and vocabulary that we were assigned. Our group was assigned Honduras as our destination and restaurant vocabulary. To make our skit culturally accurate we first researched our assigned country to learn about its culture and its cultural norms. This gave us a chance to expand our knowledge of Honduras and gain an appreciation for how it differs from other Spanish speaking countries. After a lot of collaboration, we developed a script that we all thought worked. We also focused on practicing our vocabulary and pronunciation to become more comfortable with speaking and performing in Spanish. After a few weeks of hard work we started performing and memorizing our skit, which took practice. I found the more we practiced the easier it became to memorize and time each of our lines. Ultimately, our skit sounded natural and like a true dialogue.
This project has allowed me to gain confidence in my Spanish conversational skills, as well as performing for the public. While practicing the skit countless times, the script turned into a conversation between the five of us in Spanish. I began to realize what a true conversation in Spanish sounded like and I became more confident that I could participate in a conversation with practice. This newfound confidence has made me realize it is possible for me to improve my Spanish skills even more, and possibly become fluent one day. Most importantly, I have always had a desire to travel to Spanish speaking countries but now this is coupled with a desire to be able to communicate in Spanish when I visit them.
