La poesía de la comida
Project DescriptionThe task for this project was to research and chose a dish from any Spanish speaking country. I chose to make churros with thick hot chocolate from Spain. While researching we translated the steps and ingredients needed to make our dish. As you can see in my example up above. After the research portion of the project we were assigned to write a poem about our dish in a style similar to Pablo Neruda's poetry. We spent a few weeks editing the poem and perfection it. Our last task was to cook our dish for the exhibition the next morning. I chose to make about 60 churros and a big container of thick hot chocolate. When exhibition came around everyone created delicious meals for everyone to enjoy.

Project Reflection Even though this project was challenging it was also very hands on. It gave me a chance to put my work into action by cooking the meal I researched. The hardest part was not actually cooking churros, but describing the food I had not had in so many years in a poem. I had to dig deep into my memory of being a young child in Spain eating Spanish churros with thick hot chocolate for the first time. Besides cooking Spanish churros the exhibition was my favorite part of the whole project. It was a blast eating and reading the food other people researched and created. From this project I learned how similar and different ingredients and dishes from various Spanish speaking countries are. At the end of the project I was very proud of how I preserved through perfecting my churros so they could turn out right. After spending hours laboring in the kitchen it was all worth it.

Los Cuentos Infantiles
Project SummaryThe purpose of this project was to write and illustrate a book in Spanish for elementary school aged kids. We had three weeks to complete the project. The book was to take place in a Spanish speaking country that we did prior research on. I had the story take place in Spain, since I have traveled there and found the country and culture intriguing. My book was about a cat named Alejandro who had his food stolen. Alejandro had to wander around to find his food which allows him to explore his country. When it was time to share our books we had a very fun exhibition. We read our books to the First Graders at Needham Elementary school who seemed very interested in learning more about Spain.
Project ReflectionThis project was one of my favorite projects of the year because it gave me a chance to be artistic while improving my Spanish skills including pronunciation reading, and writing. I found that the best way to improve my pronunciation was to simply practice reading my book over and over. My favorite part of this project was the exhibition as I loved reading my book to second graders. They all seemed very interested in the subject of my book and in learning about Spain. If i had to change anything about this project I would give students more time in class to complete their drawings . Throughout this project I believe that I increased my Spanish vocabulary significantly and I also greatly improved my pronounciation of common Spanish words.

Día de los muertos/ El Poema Calavera
Project Description: We started off this project by learning about day of the dead or also known as Día de los muertos. After learning all about day of the dead by watching various videos, our task became to write a poem in Spanish about a loved one, family member, or pet that had pass away (I chose to do my project on my grandfather). We also were assigned the task to make a calaca representing this person or animal. We made our calacas which are like little figurines out of wire, then we paper mache over the wire, and finally we painted it white and painted them to look like little happy, colorful skeletons. We finished off the project by writing multiple drafts of our poem until it was perfected. Overall I really enjoyed this project , and a great time exhibiting it with my peers.
Project Reflection: I learned so much through-out this project. I learned so much about day of the dead, before this project I really didn't know very much about it at all. I also learned man vocabulary words in spanish, how to pronounce many words, a lot of information I didn't know about my grandfather, and just in general how to write a great poem in Spanish! I thought the exhibition was great, so many people showed up it was crazy. The builiding was a little to small for so many people, but besides that I really enjoyed reading my poem to so many people, and telling them about my grandfather. The most challenging part of this project for me was figuring out how to pronounce a lot of new vocabulary words correctly. I found making my calaca the most enjoyable part of this project. I really like to do arts and crafts type projects. If I could go back I would make sure I knew how to pronounce my whole poem correctly before the exhibition. It was rather embarrassing when I stumbled on words. I am very proud of my poem I spent a long time revising and editing it. I tried my hardest to portrayed my grandpa exactly how I remember him , and how he is portrayed in the stories I hear about him.
