I believe that climate change is the most important issue the candidates have been presented with. Without regulation and a wide populous understanding of the importance of making changes, we cannot have a functioning and healthy planet/eco-system. We will cripple our planet and our species and others will eventually cease to exist if we don't take action now. The only way to stop the ignorance and the stubborn entrenchment of all Americans is if the government enforces positive environmental regulations with fuel, housing, energy, etc. and educates the population to the harm that we are doing to our planet. Unfortunately none of the Republican candidates are vowing to tackle the difficulties of climate change. The majority of Republican voters do not believe climate change is caused by human activity.Rubio stated something along the lines at some point that the US acting alone to prevent climate change will have a minuscule effect on climate change and rising sea levels. Unfortunately, this topic was not super relevant at the debate tonight largely because most Republicans do not find this to be an important issue, many are in denial and few believe that climate change has anything to do with human life.
Another important issue the candidates are grappling with is abortion. This is important because women need to have the right to choose what they do with their bodies and the ability to make decisions regarding their potential child. Women should have the right to abort a child if they feel they cannot give it a life it deserves or if they just simply do not want to have a child or have issues with pregnancy. Ted Cruz, a Tea Party Republican who represents the viewpoint of several of the candidates, has previously made statements on abortion such as "no right is more precious and fundamental than the right to life". He exclaimed at the debates that he feels Planned Parenthood is a "criminal enterprise" because it is selling fetal tissue for scientific purposes. Cruz feels "we shouldn't be paying $500 million of tax payer money to fund an ongoing criminal enterprise". The argument has no merits and is flawed rhetoric. Ted Cruz uses rhetoric to persuade conservative viewers to believe Planned Parenthood is an evil corporation selling child body parts, which Cruz states is a felony. He then asks viewers to ask themselves “are these the values and morals I want for my country”, and of course, the conservative audience who has a similar ideology agrees that Planned Parenthood is a bad enterprise. His position is weak because he is ideologically biased and has irrational flawed logic with his political views. I am left with one question how: How could so many possible leaders of our nation be so ignorant, irrational, and non-logical?
